what happened to Pramp? the short, accurate version.

Pramp did not shut down, despite what a lot of pages say. Here is the actual timeline: Pramp launched in 2015 as a free peer-to-peer mock interview platform, mostly for coding, system design, and product interviews. Exponent acquired it in November 2021. After June 24, 2024, all new sessions moved to Exponent Practice, and the standalone Pramp experience wound down. Same idea, new home, an Exponent account required.

Peer mock interviews with a stranger who is also practicing: Exponent Practice is the direct successor, run by the company that bought Pramp. If you searched for Pramp wanting live technical practice with another human, that is your answer, and we have no stake in saying so.

what peer mocks never covered well

Pramp-style practice pairs you with another candidate for a scheduled session. That is great for coding and system design. It is weaker for the part most interviews are actually made of: speaking your own stories under pressure. Your peer is not a coach, the session takes an hour you have to book, and behavioral answers get polite nods instead of a specific fix.

If your interview has a technical round and a behavioral round, use both kinds of practice: book a peer mock for the whiteboard, and do spoken reps for your stories in the days before. Neither substitutes for the other.
